Description
The Me 262 was the world’s first operational jet fighter, introduced by Nazi Germany in 1944. Powered by two Junkers Jumo 004 turbojets, it reached speeds over 850 km/h—far faster than Allied fighters. Armed with four 30 mm MK 108 cannons and optional rockets, it was devastating against bombers. Used primarily in interceptor and fighter-bomber roles, it struggled with reliability and fuel shortages. Though introduced too late to change the war’s outcome, the Me 262 marked a revolutionary leap in aviation and shaped postwar jet development.
