Description
The Messerschmitt Bf 109K-4 was the Luftwaffe's ultimate high-altitude interceptor, rushed into production in 1944 to counter intense Allied bombing. Building on the G-10 model, it featured aerodynamic refinements like fully enclosed landing gear wells and a retractable tail wheel. Powered by a Daimler-Benz DB605DCM engine delivering 1,800 hp, it achieved remarkable speeds up to 710 kph thanks to a redesigned Fo987 oil cooler. Armed with a 30mm MK 108 cannon and twin 13mm MG 131 machine guns, the K-4 saw service with nine fighter squadrons by the end of WWII.
