Description
The Bf 109G, or "Gustav," was one of the most produced variants of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 series, entering service in 1942. It featured the powerful Daimler-Benz DB 605 engine, giving it excellent speed and climb performance. The G series introduced heavier armament, including a 20mm or 30mm cannon firing through the propeller hub and two 13mm machine guns. Variants like the G-2, G-6, and G-10 were adapted for roles including fighter-bomber and high-altitude interceptor. Though faster and better armed, the added weight reduced its agility compared to earlier models. Despite this, the Bf 109G remained a formidable opponent and served on all fronts until the war’s end.
