Description
The Messerschmitt Bf 109G-14/AS "Peterle" was a late-war high-altitude fighter introduced in 1944 to improve the Luftwaffe's ability to intercept Allied bombers. It combined the standardized G-14 airframe with the DB 605AS engine, featuring a larger supercharger for improved performance at altitude. The aircraft retained the Erla canopy, tall wooden tail, and streamlined engine cowling seen on later Bf 109 variants. Nicknamed "Peterle," it served primarily in the Defense of the Reich, where it fought against Allied bomber formations and escort fighters. The G-14/AS bridged the gap between the G-6 and the more advanced G-10 and K-4, offering better climb, speed, and high-altitude capability while remaining relatively easy to produce.
