Description
The Messerschmitt Bf 109G-10 was one of the ultimate high-performance variants of the legendary German World War II fighter. Developed to counter advancing Allied air superiority, it was built by mating the lightweight airframe of earlier G-series models with the powerful Daimler-Benz DB 605D engine (often equipped with MW-50 water-methanol injection for emergency power boosts).
To accommodate the larger engine and improve aerodynamics, the G-10 featured distinctive cowling redesigns, often including large fairings (known as Beule) to clear the engine's larger oil cooler and supercharger components, as well as a taller wooden tail fin and clearer Erla Haube canopy on many units. It reached top speeds of around 690 kph at altitude, making it one of the fastest piston-engine fighters of the late war, typically armed with a 30mm MK 108 cannon firing through the propeller hub and twin 13mm MG 131 machine guns in the cowling.
