Description
The Bf109E-3 was the first major production model of the Luftwaffe’s primary WWII fighter series. Powered by the DB601 engine and armed with two 20 mm cannon and two 7.92 mm machine guns, it excelled in hit-and-run tactics thanks to strong acceleration and high speed. The E-3 saw heavy action in Poland, Norway, France, and the Battle of Britain. Externally it was identified by its wing-mounted 20 mm barrels and rounded early canopy. The later E-4 kept the same basic design but adopted a square canopy, while the E-7 added a rack for a 300-liter drop tank or bomb and often featured a pointed spinner.
