Description
The Bf 109C ("Caesar") was an early development of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 series, introduced in 1938 as an improvement over the B-model. It retained the Jumo 210 engine but featured enhanced armament—four 7.92mm MG 17 machine guns, two above the engine and two in the wings—giving it increased firepower. The Bf 109C maintained the sleek, all-metal monoplane design, enclosed cockpit, and retractable landing gear that made the series cutting-edge for its time. It saw limited frontline service and was used in small numbers during the late stages of the Spanish Civil War. Though quickly overshadowed by the more powerful Bf 109D and E models, the C variant helped refine the aircraft for mass production and future combat roles.
