Description
The Messerschmitt Me 262 was the world’s first operational jet-powered fighter, entering service with the Luftwaffe in 1944. Powered by two Junkers Jumo 004 turbojets, it reached speeds over 850 km/h (530 mph), far surpassing Allied piston-engine fighters. Armed with four 30mm cannons and capable of carrying rockets or bombs, it was used as an interceptor, fighter-bomber, and even reconnaissance aircraft. Despite its advanced design, engine reliability and fuel shortages limited its impact. The Me 262 marked a revolutionary step in aviation history and influenced post-war jet development globally.
