Description
The F-4 Phantom II was a twin-engine, two-seat, all-weather supersonic jet developed by McDonnell for the U.S. Navy. Entering service in 1960, it was later used by the Marine Corps and Air Force. The F-4B, the first Navy version, had two J79-GE-8 engines, a top speed of Mach 2.2, and could reach 62,000 ft (18,900 m). It carried AIM-7 Sparrow and AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles, plus a range of air-to-ground weapons. Fast, powerful, and versatile, the F-4 became a key U.S. fighter during the Cold War and Vietnam War.
