Description
The Macchi C.200 Saetta ("Lightning") was an Italian WWII fighter known for its maneuverability and ruggedness. First flown in 1937, it featured an all-metal monoplane design with an open cockpit (later enclosed) and a radial engine. Though underpowered and lightly armed with two 12.7mm machine guns, it was stable and reliable in combat. The C.200 saw action in multiple theaters, including North Africa, the Mediterranean, and the Eastern Front. Despite being outclassed by newer Allied fighters, it remained in service through much of the war and laid the foundation for later designs like the C.202 Folgore.
