Description
The Kyushu J7W1 Shinden ("Magnificent Lightning") was a Japanese prototype interceptor developed late in WWII. It featured a unique canard design with a rear-mounted engine and pusher propeller, intended to counter high-altitude B-29 bombers. Armed with four forward-firing 30mm cannons, it was heavily armed for its size. The first flight took place in August 1945, but the war ended before it could enter production. Only two prototypes were built. Though it never saw combat, the J7W1 remains one of the most radical and advanced Japanese aircraft designs of the war.
