Description
The Ki-61-Id was a late-war Japanese fighter, evolved from the Ki-61-I-KAIc with a shorter fuselage and redesigned canopy. Entering production in late 1944, it was armed with two 20mm Ho-5 cannons and two 12.7mm Ho-103 machine guns. Optimized for bomber interception, it defended Japan against U.S. B-29 raids. Of the ~1,500 Ki-61s built, only about 374 were Id variants. With a top speed of 590 km/h, it was faster than many Allied fighters and earned their respect in combat.
