Description
The Junkers Ju 88C-6 was a dedicated heavy fighter variant of Germany’s versatile Ju 88 family, developed to counter Allied bombers and long-range escorts. Entering service in 1942, the C-6 featured a solid, metal nose replacing the bomber’s glazed cockpit, allowing the installation of heavier forward-firing armament. Typically armed with multiple MG 81 or MG 17 machine guns and 20 mm MG FF or MG 151 cannons, it delivered formidable firepower. Powered by two Jumo 211 engines, the Ju 88C-6 combined good speed, range, and stability, making it effective in day interception, long-range patrols, and intruder missions. It also served as a basis for later night fighter conversions.
