Description
The Zeke, the most famous fighter of the Japanese military planes, was designed as the the successor to the Navy Type 96 Carrier Fighter (Claude). March, 1939 saw the completion of its first plane which succeeded in the maiden flight on 1 April. It was formally adopted and assigned to the Navy Type Zero Fighter Carrier in July, 1937. Since its assignment until the end of the war, it performed the role of the leading motive power of the now-defunct Japanese Air Force. Especially by about the middle of the war period, it found no enemy for its excellent maneuverability, fire amrs and long flying range, manned by the skilled pilots, and enjoyed the fame as the Zero Fighter in the world. The Zero fighters had following different types such as: A6M2, A6M3, A6M5, A6M5a, A6M5b, A6M5c, A6M6c, A6M7 and A6M8c and were produced so many as 11,430 planes in all.
