Description
The IMAM Ro.37 was an Italian reconnaissance and observation biplane developed in the early 1930s for the Regia Aeronautica to replace the Ro.1. Designed by Giovanni Galasso, the prototype flew successfully and production began in 1934 by IMAM, with additional aircraft built by Caproni and A.V.I.S. The standard Ro.37 used a Fiat A.30 inline engine, while the improved Ro.37bis featured a Piaggio P.IX radial engine. A total of 621 aircraft were produced, including 325 bis versions. The type first saw combat during the Italian invasion of Ethiopia and later served in the Spanish Civil War. During World War II it operated in North Africa, the Balkans, and Italy. The aircraft had a top speed of about 320 km/h, a range of 1,300 km, and carried machine guns and light bombs.
