Description
The IAI Kfir C‑2 was an improved early production version of Israel’s indigenous delta‑wing fighter, developed from the French Mirage 5 and adapted to Israeli operational needs. Entering service in the mid‑1970s, the C‑2 introduced distinctive aerodynamic enhancements, including small foreplanes (canards) and enlarged dog‑tooth wing leading edges, which significantly improved maneuverability and low‑speed handling. Powered by the General Electric J79 turbojet, the Kfir combined high speed with strong climb performance. It was equipped for air‑to‑air combat and ground‑attack missions, carrying cannon, bombs, rockets, and guided weapons on multiple hardpoints. Though limited by older avionics, the Kfir C‑2 proved rugged and effective, serving with the Israeli Air Force and later exported to several countries, where it remained in service for many years as a capable multirole fighter.
