Description
One of history’s most iconic fighter planes, the I-16 served as a key part of Soviet air power from 1934 to 1942. Over 1,000 were built by 1937, with 20+ variants produced. The Type 10 (1938) introduced upgrades like better armor, stronger wings, and ShKAS machine guns. Though outdated by 1941, the I-16 remained vital early in WWII and proved effective against the Bf 109E when flown by skilled pilots. Its compact size and agility made it hard to hit, earning it the nickname "Rata" (Rat) from its enemies.
