Description
The Hawker Hurricane has been the most widely used fighter by the British Royal Air Force at the beginning of World War II. It has contributed significantly to the victory of the RAF during the Battle of Britain, but during the War its role of first line fighter has been gradually replaced by the more modern Spitfire. The Hurricane, however, has gradually changed its role and continued to be used effectively in various versions. The Hurricane Mk. IIC, in fact, has a significant armament formed by four 20 mm. cannons mounted in the wings. The adoption of the 20mm cannons instead of the traditional 7.7 mm machine guns, have made the Hurricane extremely effective in the ground attack and close support missions. The Hurricane Mk. IIC was equipped with the more powerful supercharged Merlin XX engine capable of delivering 1,185 HP. The adoption of the new engine changed the shape of the nose and the Mk II was longer than the previous versions.
