Description
The Hurricane was one of the most important fighters of World War II. It formed, together with the famous Spitfire, the backbone of the RAF fighter Command in the Battle of Britain. The Hurricane was designed in 1934 as the first British monoplane fighter, capable of a top speed of more than 300 mph. It was armed with eight wing-mounted 7.7 mm Browning machine guns. Entering service in 1937, this aircraft was extensively used in every theatre of war until the end of the conflict. The Hurricane gained fame in the Battle of Britain where it shot down more enemy aircraft than all other British types combined.
