Description
The Hellcat Mk.I was the British designation for the Grumman F6F-3, a rugged and powerful American carrier-based fighter. Supplied to the Royal Navy under Lend-Lease, it entered Fleet Air Arm service in 1943. Designed to outperform the Japanese Zero, the Hellcat featured a robust airframe, heavy armament of six .50 cal machine guns, and a powerful Pratt & Whitney R-2800 engine. It quickly proved effective in both air-to-air combat and ground attack roles. The Hellcat Mk.I saw action in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters, contributing significantly to Allied air superiority during the latter half of WWII.
