Description
The Heinkel He 162 Mistel was a late‑war German proposal combining the jet‑powered He 162 “Volksjäger” as a piloted control aircraft with an explosive‑filled unmanned bomber beneath, creating a guided flying bomb. The pilot would fly the composite toward high‑value targets—bridges, ships, fortified positions—then release the lower component to crash into the objective while attempting to return. Conceptually it married jet performance with the established Mistel parasites, reflecting desperate innovation as resources dwindled. Never built or deployed, the He 162 Mistel remained a paper solution shaped by production limits, fuel shortages, and collapsing logistics.
