Description
The Hurricane was designed in 1934, first flew in 1935, and entered service with the RAF in 1937. It was a single-seat fighter aircraft, designed before WWII and used extensively throughout the war. The Hurricane was powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine and was equipped with eight .303 inch Browning machine guns. Over 14,000 Hurricanes were built and it served in all major theaters of WWII. It played a crucial role during the Battle of Britain in 1940, accounting for 60% of RAF victories. The Hurricane Mk.I was the first production version and was continuously improved throughout its service life.
