Description
The Hawker Hurricane Mk.I was a British single-seat fighter aircraft that formed the backbone of the Royal Air Force during the early stages of World War II. Designed by Sydney Camm, it featured a robust steel-tube frame covered with fabric and plywood, making it rugged, easy to repair, and exceptionally forgiving in combat.
Powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, the Mk.I was heavily armed with eight .303-inch Browning machine guns. Although slower than its contemporary the Spitfire, the Hurricane achieved the vast majority of Allied aerial victories during the pivotal Battle of Britain in 1940, playing an indispensable role in securing the nation's defense.
