Description
The Gotha Go 242B was a German military transport glider developed during World War II by Gothaer Waggonfabrik. Designed to replace smaller gliders like the DFS 230, the Go 242B featured a robust steel-tube frame covered with fabric and plywood, and a distinctive twin-boom tail for stability and easy cargo access. It could carry up to 23 fully equipped troops or equivalent cargo, such as light vehicles or supplies. The glider was towed into the air by aircraft like the Heinkel He 111 or Junkers Ju 52, then released near the battlefield to deliver troops or materials directly to forward positions. Its simplicity, strength, and versatility made it a valuable asset for airborne and resupply missions across multiple fronts.
