Description
The Fw 190D-9 was the most produced variant of the long-nosed 'Dora' series and among the best fighters available to the Luftwaffe in late WWII. Powered by the Jumo 213A inline engine, it reached speeds up to 700 km/h (435 mph), making it one of the fastest piston-engine fighters of the war. Armed with two MG 131 machine guns and two MG 151 cannons, it served mainly as a high-altitude interceptor and escort. Some were fitted with Neptun radar for night fighting. A total of 1,805 D-9s were built, seeing combat from September 1944 until the war's end.
