Description
The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 was one of the Luftwaffe’s finest fighters in WWII. Designed by Kurt Tank to meet a 1938 RLM spec, it faced early technical problems. The first prototype flew on June 1, 1939. After extensive changes, 28 pre-series Fw 190A-0s were built in late 1940. Six were tested by Erprobungsstaffel 190 at Rechlin, where major flaws were found, leading the RLM to temporarily halt the program. Despite this, test pilots strongly backed the design. After around 50 modifications, the RLM approved the Fw 190 for service. It went on to serve in many roles with great success.
