Description
The Spitfire Mk IX was a critical British fighter introduced in 1942 to counter the Focke-Wulf Fw 190. Powered by the Rolls-Royce Merlin 61 engine with a two-stage supercharger, it offered superior speed, climb rate, and high-altitude performance. Armed typically with two 20 mm Hispano cannons and four .303 machine guns, the Mk IX was versatile in both air superiority and ground attack roles. It became the most produced Spitfire variant, serving in every major theater of WWII. Its excellent handling and adaptability made it a favorite among pilots, helping maintain Allied air dominance throughout the war.
