Description
The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 emerged in WWII’s second half as a top Luftwaffe fighter. First flown in 1939, it faced early setbacks but entered service in 1941 armed with four 7.9mm MG 17s. The A-2 version improved armament with 20mm cannons, while the A-3 and A-4 models featured upgraded engines and weapons. Production soared from 224 in 1941 to 1,878 in 1942. Later variants, including the A-5 through A-9, introduced stronger wings, heavier guns, and power boosts like the GM-1 nitrous system. The Fw 190F and G served as fighter-bombers with ground-attack roles. The Fw 190D arrived in 1944 with a new engine. The aircraft was key in defending Germany, challenging Allied bombers until late war, despite never eclipsing the Bf 109’s fame.
