Description
The Focke-Wulf Fw 190, developed from 1938, became one of the Luftwaffe's most effective fighters in WWII. First flown in 1939, it entered service in 1940 as the Fw 190A-1. Over time, variants like the A-2, A-3, and A-4 improved armament and power, while the A-5 added longer engine mounts. The A-6 to A-8 series upgraded weapons and added armor, with the A-8/R2 featuring MK 108 cannons for bomber interception. The MW 50 and GM-1 boost systems enhanced engine performance. The final variant, the A-9, used the Jumo 213A engine. Development continued with the Fw 190D "Dora," which featured a water-cooled inline engine, improving speed and climb, making it competitive with top Allied fighters like the P-51D.
