Description
The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 became the Luftwaffe’s most effective fighter of WWII, evolving from a troubled prototype in 1939 into a rugged, heavily armed warplane. Initial models, like the Fw 190A-1, entered service in 1941, armed with MG 17 machine guns. Subsequent versions improved engine performance, firepower, and survivability—especially the A-8, the most produced variant with over 6,600 built, featuring GM-1 boost and MK 108 cannons in A-8/R2 and R8 subtypes. The F-series adapted the design for ground attack, while the long-nosed Fw 190D used a Jumo 213 engine. Fw 190s served across all fronts and were key in Reich air defense against Allied bombers.
