Description
The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 was among the Luftwaffe’s most effective fighters during the second half of World War II, serving in numerous roles and variants. Developed under Kurt Tank to meet a 1938 RLM requirement, it first flew in June 1939 and entered service in 1941 after extensive refinement. Powered by the BMW 801 radial engine, the Fw 190 proved superior to contemporary Allied fighters on the Western Front. Continuous development produced many versions, from air-superiority fighters to fighter-bombers and bomber interceptors, with the A-8 becoming the most widely built. Although less numerous than the Bf 109, the Fw 190 played a crucial role on all fronts until 1945.
