Description
Fw190A-3 PRODUCTION VERSION. For 1940 production version, Fw190A-2 appeared, small number of A-2 were built in 1941. The Focke-Wulf was powered by a radial engine, a rare choice for a fighter and a configuration more common to bombers and other multi-engine aircraft. The practicality of the design afforded the Fw190 considerable advantages over its main opponents during the latter half of World War II. Operational on all fronts, the dependable BMW801D2 radial engine was more reliable than the Daimler-Benz inverted DB601/DB605/DB603 series liquid cooled engine used by the Messerschmitt Bf109 series. Of interest, boosting the Fw190s top speed to 665km/h. Optional armament consisted either of two MG151/20 20mm cannon and two MG17 7.9mm machine guns and two MGI51/17 20mm cannon, or two MG151/20 20mm cannon and two MG17 7.9mm machine guns and two MGFF 20mm cannon. Other Fw190 variants did not include the wing root.
