Description
The Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-3 was one of the most capable German fighters of World War II, introduced in 1942 as an improved development of the Fw 190A series. Designed by Kurt Tank, it featured a robust low-wing monoplane airframe powered by the BMW 801D-2 radial engine producing around 1,700 horsepower. This engine gave the aircraft excellent speed, climb rate, and reliability compared to many early-war Allied fighters. The A-3 carried a strong armament of two MG 17 7.92 mm machine guns and two MG 151/20 20 mm cannons, making it highly effective in both air combat and ground attack roles.
Its compact design and radial engine made it highly survivable and easy to maintain in frontline conditions. The Fw 190A-3 also served as a basis for fighter-bomber conversions, increasing its versatility across multiple combat roles. Around 500 aircraft were produced, and it quickly gained a reputation for performance superiority in low and medium altitude combat engagements.
