Description
The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 D-9, also known as the “Dora,” was a late-war German single-seat fighter designed to address the Fw 190’s performance loss at high altitudes. Powered by a liquid-cooled Junkers Jumo 213A engine, it offered exceptional speed, climb rate, and maneuverability, making it highly effective against Allied bombers and fighters. The D-9 combined the robust airframe of the original Fw 190 with streamlined aerodynamics and heavier armament, typically including 20 mm cannons and a 30 mm engine-mounted cannon. It excelled in both air superiority and ground-attack roles, with pilots praising its handling and high-speed performance. Introduced in 1944, the Fw 190 D-9 became a key Luftwaffe asset in defending the Reich and providing flexible support on the Eastern and Western fronts.
