Description
The Fairey Fulmar was a British two-seat carrier fighter used by the Fleet Air Arm in WWII. Based on the Fairey P.4/34, it entered service in 1940 and remained active until 1945. Though slower than single-seat fighters, it was the FAA’s main fighter early in the war. Fulmars saw action in the Mediterranean, Arctic convoys, and Indian Ocean, scoring victories and serving in fighter-recon roles. Two variants were built: Mk I with a Merlin VIII engine, and Mk II with a Merlin 30. Replaced in front-line service from 1942, they remained in secondary roles until war’s end.
