Description
The F4F-3 Wildcat was a carrier-based fighter used by the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps early in World War II. It featured fixed wings, a rugged airframe, and four .50 caliber machine guns. Though slower and less agile than the Japanese Zero, the F4F-3 was tough, well-armed, and could take heavy damage. Pilots developed tactics like the "Thach Weave" to counter enemy advantages. The F4F-3 played a key role in early Pacific battles, including Coral Sea and Midway, and laid the groundwork for later U.S. Navy fighter success.
