Description
The Blue Angels are the U.S. Navy’s flight demonstration squadron, formed in 1946, making them the second-oldest aerobatic team in the world. Composed of Navy and Marine pilots, they fly F/A-18 Hornets in over 70 shows annually across the U.S. Blue Angel 7, a two-seat F/A-18D, serves as a backup and transports the show narrator and VIPs. The jets are modified former fleet aircraft, with guns removed and smoke-oil tanks added. A 40-pound spring on the control stick improves precision. Pilots do not wear G-suits, as inflation would interfere with control; instead, they use muscle strain to counter high G-forces.
