Description
The McDonnell F-101B Voodoo was the two-seat, all-weather interceptor variant of the Voodoo series, entering service with the USAF in 1959. Designed for the air defense role, it featured a powerful radar and fire-control system, allowing it to engage targets with guided missiles. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney J57-P-55 turbojets, it could reach speeds over Mach 1.7. The F-101B was armed with AIM-4 Falcon missiles and often carried the AIR-2 Genie, a nuclear-tipped unguided rocket for bomber interception. Over 479 were built, serving primarily with the Air Defense Command. Fast and capable, the F-101B remained in service into the late 1970s.
