Description
The Dassault-Breguet Super Étendard was a French carrier-based strike fighter developed in the 1970s to replace the Étendard IV. First flown in 1974 and entering service in 1978, it was designed for maritime strike, nuclear delivery, and ground attack missions. Powered by a single Atar 8K-50 turbojet, it could carry Exocet anti-ship missiles, laser-guided bombs, and other ordnance. The Super Étendard gained fame during the Falklands War, when Argentine jets sank British ships using Exocets. It later served in conflicts like Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Libya. Modernized in the 1990s (Super Étendard Modernisé), it remained in service with France until 2016 and Argentina until the 2020s.
