Description
The EF-111A Raven was an electronic warfare aircraft developed from the General Dynamics F-111 Aardvark for the U.S. Air Force. Entering service in 1983, it was designed to jam enemy radar and air-defense systems, allowing friendly aircraft to operate more safely in contested airspace. The Raven carried advanced electronic countermeasures equipment in place of the F-111’s weapons systems and was operated by a crew of two. It saw combat during operations in Libya, Panama, the Gulf War, and the Balkans, where its jamming capabilities proved highly effective. Fast, long-ranged, and capable of flying at low altitude, the EF-111 became a vital support asset until its retirement in 1998, when its mission was assumed by the U.S. Navy’s EA-6B Prowler.
