Description
The De Havilland Hornet F.3 was a long-range fighter developed by de Havilland near the end of World War II. Powered by two Rolls-Royce Merlin engines, it was one of the fastest piston-engine aircraft ever built. The F.3 variant featured improved fuel capacity and strengthened wings for extended operations overseas. Designed for service in the Pacific, it instead saw postwar duty with the RAF, including combat in Malaya during the Emergency. Sleek, lightweight, and heavily armed with four 20 mm cannon, the Hornet combined speed, range, and firepower in an elegant twin-engine design.
