Description
The Dassault Mirage IIIE was a single-seat tactical strike and fighter-bomber developed from the Mirage IIIC. It featured a 30 cm fuselage extension behind the cockpit to house additional avionics. The aircraft was equipped with Cyrano II radar with air-to-ground modes, improved navigation systems including TACAN and Doppler radar, and powered by the Atar 09C-3 turbojet engine. The first production Mirage IIIE entered service in January 1964, and 192 were delivered to the French Air Force. Total production, including export versions, reached 523 aircraft. Variants included the Mirage IIIEA for Argentina (17 built), Mirage IIIEE for Spain (24 delivered), and the Australian Mirage IIIO with 100 aircraft produced. Reconnaissance versions included the Mirage IIIR and IIIRD equipped with camera noses.
