Description
The Curtiss-Wright CW-21A Demonstrator was an experimental high-climb interceptor developed in the late 1930s to explore advanced pursuit concepts. Featuring a lightweight airframe, powerful radial engine, and exceptional climb rate, it was designed to intercept enemy bombers rapidly. The aircraft emphasized speed and agility over armor and defensive systems, making it vulnerable in sustained combat. The CW-21A served primarily as a prototype to test performance and handling characteristics, influencing later production models like the CW-21B. While never entering mass production, it demonstrated innovative design principles for dedicated interceptor aircraft in the pre-World War II era.
