Description
The Boulton Paul Defiant was designed as a 'turret fighter', and was initially successful in shooting down enemy bombers. However, it proved to be no match for single-seat fighters and was withdrawn from daylight operations. It found success as a night fighter, particularly during the Blitz, where its four-gun turret proved effective against enemy bombers. Later in the war, some Defiants were converted to target tugs.
