Description
The Boulton Paul Defiant was a British interceptor aircraft that served with the Royal Air Force (RAF) during World War II. The Defiant was designed and built by Boulton Paul Aircraft as a turret fighter, without any forward-firing guns. In practice, the Defiant was found to be reasonably effective as a night fighter but disappointing as a day fighter. The Defiant Mk.I entered service in December 1939 and first saw combat in May 1940. The aircraft found success as a night fighter during the Blitz of 1940-41.
