Description
The Blackburn Buccaneer was a British carrier-borne attack aircraft designed in the 1950s for the Royal Navy (RN). Designed and initially produced by Blackburn Aircraft at Brough, it was later known as the Hawker Siddeley Buccaneer when Blackburn became a part of the Hawker Siddeley Group. The Royal Air Force also adopted the Buccaneer and used it from 1969 until 1994. Buccaneer were capable of flying at high subsonic speed at intensely low altitudes to avoid radar detection. The Royal Navy retired its Buccaneers in 1978, leaving the RAF to continue their service until 1994.
