Description
The Bf 110E was a twin-engine heavy fighter developed by Messerschmitt and used by the German Luftwaffe during World War II. Originally designed as a long-range escort fighter, the Bf 110E featured improved armor, reinforced airframe, and increased payload capacity over earlier variants. It was powered by two Daimler-Benz DB 601 engines, allowing speeds of up to 540 km/h and offering solid performance for multi-role missions. Armed with two 20 mm cannons and four 7.92 mm machine guns in the nose, plus a rear defensive gun, the Bf 110E was also capable of carrying bombs, making it suitable for fighter-bomber operations. It saw extensive service during the early war years, particularly in the Balkans, North Africa, and on the Eastern Front. Though it became increasingly vulnerable to more agile single-engine fighters, the Bf 110E remained in use thanks to its versatility, range, and firepower, later evolving into successful night fighter variants like the Bf 110G-4.
