Description
The Bf 109 G-2 was part of the "Gustav" series of Messerschmitt fighters introduced in 1942. Externally similar to the earlier F series, it featured internal improvements including the powerful Daimler-Benz DB 605A engine, boosting speed and performance. The G-2 had a top speed of around 660 km/h and excellent climb capabilities. It was armed with a 20 mm MG 151/20 cannon firing through the propeller hub and two 7.92 mm MG 17 machine guns above the engine. Though lacking cockpit armor in early versions, it was highly effective at medium and high altitudes. The G-2 served widely on the Eastern Front, North Africa, and in defense of the Reich, proving a formidable opponent in skilled hands.
