Description
The Bf 109G-1 was the first variant of the "Gustav" series of the Messerschmitt Bf 109, entering service in early 1942. Designed for high-altitude combat, it featured a pressurized cockpit and was powered by the Daimler-Benz DB 605A engine, offering improved performance over earlier models. Armament included a 20mm MG 151/20 cannon firing through the propeller hub and two 7.92mm MG 17 machine guns above the engine. The G-1 retained the sleek airframe of earlier Bf 109s but introduced reinforced construction to handle the increased engine power. It served primarily on the Western and Eastern Fronts, providing the Luftwaffe with a capable high-altitude interceptor during a critical phase of the air war.
