Description

The Mitsubishi Zero was the legendary symbol of Japanese air power during World War II. Designed by Jiro Horikoshi, the lightweight fighter combined an exceptional range, incredible maneuverability, and powerful armament, dominating early Pacific battlefields. Introduced in 1942, the A6M3 Type 32 variant featured a powerful Sakae 21 engine and clipped, shortened wings that increased top speed but reduced operational range. Initially designated "Hamp" by Allied intelligence before its true identity was realized, the Type 32 served primarily in roles like airfield defense and bomber interception across New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. Despite its eventual obsolescence against newer Allied aircraft, the Zero remains one of the most famous and recognizable fighter planes of the mid-20th century conflict.
